The Speaker of uMgungundlovu District Municipaity , Councillor S Gabela attended
Day 2, of the DDT schools functionality , monitoring and follow up programme under UMsunduzi Municipality . Two schools were visited, namely Grange and Piet Ritief Primary Schools, to monitor the implementation of resolutions that were taken in January .
Grange Primary reported that they had secured a sponsorship of R1, 2 million which will assist in hall renovations and fixing of water leaks. The sponsorship initiative was applauded by principals with an emphasis that government needs such partnership in ensuring quality service delivery in communities .
Piet Retief Primary reported that they have a municipal water and sewage pipe that crosses through the school causing dampness and a foul smell in the neighborhood. Another area of concern is an area that has water which poses danger to learners and needs to be barricaded soonest . A resolution was thereafter taken that a signed MOU between the municipality and Piet Rietief Primary must be in place, which will assist in continuation of monitoring to ensure that school functions at its best capacity.
