On the 19th of November 2024, Mayor Cllr Mzi Zuma of uMgungundlovu District Municipality attended the start of the uMgungundlovu District Local House Strategic Planning at Alphine Heath Resort. Traditional leaders from the district and COGTA representatives were also present.
Key figures at the event included Nkosi P Majozi, Chairperson of the Local House of Traditional and Khoisan, officials from various Traditional Counsels in the district, Kisa Dlamini and Mrs P.N Mtshali from COGTA, representatives from local municipalities under the District Municipality, and individuals from Vodacom.
The main purpose of the meeting was to set regulations for the Local House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders, delineate committee responsibilities, and explore ways for the Local House to collaborate effectively with COGTA, the District Municipality, and local municipalities. The session also featured the presentation of the uMgungundlovu District Municipality cemetery master plan and updates from local municipalities in the district.
Discussions primarily centered on improving efficiency and meeting the House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders' overarching goals. Mayor Mzi Zuma stressed the significance of government and traditional structures partnering together. He encouraged traditional leaders to speak up about their communities' needs and pledged the government's backing for their vision.
