On the 1st of July 2020, the President of South Africa proclaimed the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI Act or POPIA). The goal of the POPI Act is to protect data subjects from security breaches, theft, and discrimination.
As a District Municipality, uMgungundlovu employs "appropriate, reasonable technical and organizational measures" designed to prevent both unlawful access and the loss or damage of personal information, as required by Section 18 of the POPIA.
