District Schools Excellence Awards-Matric 2022

UMgungundlovu District Municipality in partnership with The Department of Education, KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council and South African Youth Council today held an awards ceremony for matrics, class of 2022 on 16 March 2022.
The Schools Excellence Awards Ceremony for National Senior Certificate (NSC) 2022 was held at the City Hall in Pietermaritzburg under UMsunduzi Local Municipality, with the appearances of Government Dignitaries both from different Departments in the Province, District and Local Municipalities including Mayor of UMsunduzi Local Municipality Mzi Thebolla and Mayor of the District Mzi Zuma, NPO's and Unions from the Department of Education, as well as other Government Departments Church Organizations, as well as Business Associates and Sponsors of the event :The Department of Treasury, UMsunduzi Local Municipality, Umngeni Water, Khayelihle Funeral Services, Community Chest, Shuter & Shooters, SHF Living, and Business Systems.
The audience in this event enjoyed beautiful music from the Pietermaritzburg Girls High School music band, together with addresses from above mentioned Dignitaries and special guests.
Cllr Mzi Zuma's address highlighted the importance of working together as a community to ensure we have proper systems of Education to enhance quality Education and Economic development. The Mayor continued to wish the District's Education success and congratulated all stakeholders involved in improving results saying: "Something very good has happened in our District which is the improvement of the results. We are quite pleased with the improvements of 7,6% as this is a huge success and huge improvement. We give a huge round of applause to everyone who have contributed to this. Especially the quality of the results, with 52 % Bachelor Passes, especially in disadvantaged communities and the improvement in subjects like Mathematics and Science.
Nxamamalala said the community, parents, leaners and organizations including leaders must continue to do what they do best and play a huge role in supporting and protecting our education to ensure that there is a continuation of good results and success in the District, Province and the country.
Nxamamalala said it is glorious to see that the partnership with the above stakeholders has come to such a success, saying that the focus is to ensure that all our children/leaners are off the streets and receive the necessary help that they should be getting. Saying :"We have a commitment to assist learners together with these partners especially assisting leaners get to University and assist them with their basic needs as they enter these Institutions.
In conclusion the Mayor congratulated the learners on the resounding results that was achieved by the class of 2022.
The recipients included teachers and leaners from Pietermaritzburg Girls High, EMzamnweni Secondary, eMkhabeya Secondary School, Maritzburg College, Mnconjwana High, Howick High School , Masijabule High School, uMthoqotho High School aswell as other schools.
The school that optained the most Distinctions at quartile two is Pmb Girls High, with 530 Distinctions and Mnconjwana High School with 288 Distinctions.
UMgungundlovu District Municipality would like to congratulate all stakeholders involved in producing quality results for the 2022 and Thank all Sponsors who made this event a success.
