Wastewater Quality Compliance

UMgungundlovu District Municipality owns six wastewater treatment works which serves different local municipalities, namely: Appelsbosch and Cool-Air wastewater works serving uMshwathi LM; Camperdown wastewater works serving Mkhambathini LM; Richmond wastewater works serving Richmond LM; Howick wastewater works serving uMngeni LM and Mooi river wastewater works serving Mpofana LM.

The performance of the wastewater treatment works is continually assessed through the monitoring of the final effluent discharged and their compliance is assessed against their respective prescribed Department of Water Affairs standards for final effluent. The DWAF standards used to assess compliance are:

• Appelsbosch wastewater works compliance is measured against DWAF General Authorization General Limits
• Cool Air wastewater works compliance is measured against DWAF General Authorization General Limits
• Camperdown wastewater works compliance is measured against DWAF General Authorization General Limits
• Richmond wastewater works compliance is measured against DWAF General Authorization General Limits
• Howick wastewater works compliance is measured against DWAF General Authorization General Limits
• Mooi river wastewater works compliance is measured against DWAF General Authorization General Limits
